Discovering Your Inner Superhero on Superhero Sunday

Superhero Sunday’s family fun included cape customization, face painting, and a playground of oversized lawn games. Little adventurers took on the Kids Fun Run and Superhero Obstacle Course, where they were challenged to navigate a laser crawl and make their way through the treacherous “Stay off the Lava” course.

Hundreds of competitive runners and casual walkers took to the streets around the Capitol for a 5K race. Meanwhile, healthcare professionals from Connecticut Children’s were on hand to share helpful information about healthy eating, the benefits of physical therapy and innovative programs like Healthy Homes.

Credit for much of the day’s success was due to volunteers from Ball 4 a Cure, a group of young philanthropists who partnered with Connecticut Children’s to design and execute the inaugural event—raising $50,000 for the Greatest Need Children’s Fund.

Ball 4 a Cure began in 2015, when seven elementary school friends from West Hartford started an annual 3-on-3 charity basketball tournament. That tournament has now grown into several multi-faceted events each year, with the proceeds donated to The Family Support Fund to benefit patients with pediatric cancer at Connecticut Children’s.

“We were honored to join forces with Connecticut Children’s to launch Superhero Sunday,” said Cole Stabnick, a co-founder of Ball 4 a Cure. “It was a day filled with joy, laughter, and unforgettable moments, showcasing the superhero spirit in us all.”
