Connecticut Children’s, the state’s only health system 100% dedicated to children’s well-being, has received a transformational 7-figure gift from the Burton and Phyllis Hoffman Foundation to support the hospital’s new eight-story clinical tower and the expansion of facilities and services across the region.

“From service on our corporate board to establishing The Burton and Phyllis Hoffman Endowed Chair in Adolescent Medicine, the Hoffman family has been a champion of Connecticut Children’s for many years,” said Jim Shmerling, Connecticut Children’s President and CEO. “This remarkable new gift will have a profound and lasting impact on children’s health in our region, allowing us to provide more kids and families with access to world-class care. The Hoffmans are true philanthropic leaders in our community, and we are deeply grateful for their steadfast support.”

The new clinical tower, set to open in December 2025, is part of the most ambitious expansion in Connecticut Children’s history, with new buildings, new capacities, and new services across the region—all designed to provide better outcomes for sick kids and provide the medical and mental health care they need close to home. The new state-of-the-art tower is connected to the existing medical center in Hartford and will include an expanded Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, an Advanced Cellular and Gene Therapy Unit, an Acuity Adaptable Unit, and a Fetal Care Center

“The strength of any community is rooted in the health of its children and families,” said Jeffrey Hoffman, Co-Chairman, Hoffman Auto Group and Director Emeritus, Connecticut Children’s Corporate Board. “We have watched Connecticut Children’s grow and evolve over the years, and supporting its expansion will strengthen families and communities across the state.”

“Our family has always believed in giving back to the community where we live and work,” added Bradley Hoffman, Co-Chairman, Hoffman Auto Group. “Connecticut Children’s has touched the lives of so many in our state with hope and healing. We are proud to stand behind the work they do every day and help ensure that lifesaving pediatric care will be in our community for generations to come.”
